Minor Capital Projects

Minor capital projects focus on upgrading and improving existing building systems to support safe, efficient, and effective learning environments. These projects include system renewals such as roof and boiler replacements, accessibility upgrades, energy efficiency improvements such as HVAC and electrical upgrades, and interior or exterior refurbishments. The Abbotsford School District works closely with the Ministry of Education and Child Care to prioritize projects that extend the life of school buildings and ensure they continue to meet the evolving needs of students and staff.

Semath Elementary HVAC Upgrade

Semath Elementary completed Phase One of an HVAC upgrade to improve air quality, comfort, and energy efficiency in part of the school in 2025. The new system ensures a more consistent indoor climate and supports the district’s commitment to healthy, sustainable learning environments. Phase Two is planned for the summer of 2026.

Dave Kandal Elementary Boiler Upgrade

Dave Kandal Elementary received a boiler system upgrade in 2025 to improve heating efficiency and reliability. The new system enhances energy performance, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and supports the district’s commitment to maintaining safe, sustainable, and cost-effective school facilities.

Ten-Broeck Elementary Main Distribution Upgrade

Ten-Broeck Elementary underwent a number of projects in 2025 including a lighting retrofit project, replacing existing fixtures with higher-efficiency bulbs to reduce electricity consumption. This upgrade supports the District’s ongoing commitment to energy conservation and sustainable facility operations. In addition, there was a main distribution panel upgrade which included a BC Hydro kiosk. and the installation of a backup power generator.
