Sandra Breslin wins 2019 Premier’s Award for Excellence in Education

Sandra Breslin, an educational assistant at Prince Charles Elementary, has received a Premier’s Award for Excellence in Education at an awards ceremony in Victoria. Breslin was presented with her award Friday, Oct. 4, 2019, at the second annual Premier’s Awards for Excellence in Education ceremony held at Government House.

This year’s 10 winners, who were chosen from 140 nominations received between January and April 2019 and narrowed down to 30 finalists, were announced at the ceremony. Out of the 30 finalists, two were educators from the Abbotsford School District:

  • (WINNER) Sandra Breslin, Prince Charles Elementary, Outstanding Support - Teaching Assistant
  • (FINALIST) Paul Lilly, Chief Dan George Middle School, Extracurricular Leadership

The awards were launched last year to honour the outstanding achievements of public, independent and First Nations school teachers, principals, vice-principals, administrators and support staff in the K-12 school system.

Winners receive a $3,000 personal bursary for professional learning, a $2,000 contribution to their school community, and a commemorative work of art. Runners-up receive a certificate of recognition signed by the Premier and Minister of Education.
