Ready, Set, GO: Facilities & Transportation Face Busy Summer

By Kayla Stuckart, Communications Manager

Summer may be the down time for classes and schools, but it is always a busy time for our Facilities and Maintenance staff. Some of the projects set the short two-month span include: major lighting upgrades and controls at Robert Bateman; boiler upgrades at Ten Broeck and North Poplar; bottle filling stations at Mt Lehman, Clearbrook and King; Learning Commons projects at Centennial Park, Asia Sumas, Margaret Stenersen and Mountain; and special needs projects at Yale, Abby Senior, Ten Broeck and Blue Jay. Plus… classroom space conversions, washroom renovations, portable moves and repairs, recoating of gym hardwood floors, exterior and interior painting jobs, flooring, electrical upgrades, paving work, and the annual custodial summer cleaning of all schools… to name a few more projects!

Transportation will be busy with planning and handling registrations for the configured bussing routes, as well as annually scheduled bus maintenance.

It should go without saying that the question “Do you get the summer off?” is not too poplar in our department!
